MakiMaki Ray was first identified by Maki Sugahara on the Kona Manta Ray Night Dive at the Kona Surf site in February 1999. When he was approximately 7’ across. He is easy to identify because he is missing both of his cephalic fins, his tail, and his right clasper. Fishing line has also cut the front edge of his left wing. He has also been sighted at the northern site at Ho’ona Bay/ Garden Eels on several occasions.
