This ray is a large handsome male with mature claspers and a short tail only about 1’ long. He was first sighted on May 26, 1997 and swam with the other mantas at the Kona Surf site during that week. He seemed shy at first, but during the course of the week became more bold and approached divers closely. He is named after late Ray Diaz who was an avid diver and good friend of the staff at Jack’s Diving Locker.
