The name was suggested by Alex Alexander's daughters Maya and Anja, who were with me when we saw Pu'uwai for the first time. Choosing this name was based on a fun contest with our social media followers where we received over 50 submissions. Pu'uwai means "Heart" in Hawaiian. I decided to choose this name because the mantas often have a profound impact on the people that join the manta experience. Being in their presence simply touches people's heart. I also appreciated the heartfelt submissions from everyone who suggested a name.
