Scar gets his name from his badly scarred left rear wing. He was first identified on October 8, 1995 as he swam by a group of scuba divers at Keahole Point. He was seen again on several night dives at the Kona Surf where he was feeding with as many as 10 other manta rays during the last week of May 1997.
