Yvet was first identified by Michèle Doucet with help from Jeff Leicher of Jack’s Diving Locker on the morning of October 5th, 2015. He is a young male, about 7 feet wide who was playful and curious towards the group of divers who jumped in to observe him feeding near the « Touch of Grey » dive site. Yvet is named after Yvette Bernard-Gagnon, Michèle’s grandmother, who was an artist, world traveller and nature lover from Quebec (Canada) and who lived to be 101 years old. Yvet was her artist signature. Born in 1914, Yvette is remembered by all who knew and loved her as an open-minded and intellectually curious person as well as for her unique sense of humour and positive outlook on life. In her honour, Yvet will hopefully live a long and happy life in the warm blue waters off the Kona coast.
