On November 29th 2019, I met Louisette for the first time on a night dive. 3 other mantas were along with her that night feeding on plankton around our dive lights. Louisette was very shy compared to the other ones. She would stay behind me, away from the crowd and just feed herself over the sand with the help of her cephalic lobes. Getting a picture of shy Louisette was quite challenging. I would stand in front of her to get her best angle, but she would just go left or right and stick to the sand instead of going up and showing me her belly. I named her Louisette in honor of my grandmother from France. I’ve been traveling a lot and I’ve been living abroad for many years now and I miss my family every day. So getting the chance to see Louisette the manta when I go for a swim reminds me that my family and my grandmother are still very close to me during my adventures.
