Jana Ray
image from video by Dane Knezek 2011/08/08
I first saw Jana Ray on 8/8/11 at the Keauhou site. While she swam awkwardly and near the bottom, she was eager to come up to my lights and seemed inquisitive. She was already home to a remora that was several inches long. I assume she is very young, and was surprised to see that she already had a vertical cut on her wing indicative of a fishing line injury. She is named for my mom, Jana, who is resiliently battling lymphoma. She is a strong woman and my role model, and I owe her the world.
