Nita Ray is a beautiful young female manta with exquisite back markings. She is the Manta Pacific "poster" manta because of her beauty. She was 4' across when she was first seen at the Kona Surf site on the night of June 26, 1996. She was shy and passed by the divers without stopping to feed. She spent many days and nights at Kailua Pier during July and August 1996. Nita was again sighted at the Kona Surf during the last week of May 1997. In September 1997, Nita returned to the Kona Surf, but her tail was only one foot long and her left wing tip was missing. She frequently interacts with divers at both the Kona Surf and Ho'ona site.
